advocare---24 day challenge

Well a dear friend has recently started selling Advocare in hopes of supplementing her income to stay home with her boys. She and I are currently doing the Advocare 24 days challenge in order to give a testimonial of the product. I did Advocare several years ago and had some success I just didn't like taking all the vitamins. I'm willing to try it again for the sake of a friend so today I started my 24 day challenge.

Days 1-10 involve an herbal cleanse so you have to drink this fiber drink which was really nasty....I can't lie. The cleanse involves 10 days of fiber cleansing and probiotics.

Day 11-24 involved taking 14 vitamins and minerals in pill form. Several are taken before breakfast and with breakfast....the rest are taken before and with lunch.

In addition there is an omega vitamin that helps promote heart health, a pill called Catalyst that helps burn fat instead of muscle and a pill called thermoplus which I have heard refered to as the lipo pill because is speeds up the burning of calories in your body.

All this to say....I am going to be a pill popping machine for the next 24 days. HOWEVER, all the people we've heard from say they lost 10 to 45lbs in just 24 days. If this will kick my weightloss into high gear I am all for it.

stay tuned for results...

something to treasure

This past October we hosted our annual Mom's Weekend event. This is a time honored tradition at Louisiana College that I inherited when I came to LC as the Residence Life Director. When I moved to Student Activities I continued to host Mom's Weekend for my newly hired male co-worker. This year's theme was Steel Magnolia's because it is simply my favorite movie of all time. It was such a great theme for the weekend! And heck...I got to quote the movie all weekend. I am pretty sure that I can quote it from start to finish. ANYWAY...a lady stopped me at the end of the weekend and told me what a great weekend she had and that she knew the author of the play, Robert Harling (Bobby) and that she was going to try to get me an autographed copy of the book.

Months and months have gone by and to be honest I had forgotten about this promise...but Mrs. Ronda showed up in my office today with a signed copy of the movie. I couldn't have been more surprised and I absolutely love it!!

It says, "I hear you are a true steel magnolia! All the best, Bobby Harling"

What a gift....what a great way to start this Tuesday!

weighing in

As of Saturday morning's weigh in I am officially down -17lbs. I am starting week 7 of this lifestyle change and it is true what "they" say...your body will start to crave what you feed it. I survived the 5 week mark where the honeymoon phase of this change was OVER! I survived having company come to town for a week and still made healthy choices. The next big test will be going home for a visit with friends and family, spending days on the lake and travel days in the car. I can do it! My goal is to hit the -25lbs mark by the end of spring break.

Busy Weekend!

So I just thought I was done with projects at my apartment...who am I kidding? This girl loves change. This weekend I decided to conquer my little patio area at my backdoor. It has become my little concrete oasis. I realized that most of my plants are just greenary so I decided I could jazz it up for the summer by painting the furniture bright fun colors. I was kind of doubting myself so I checked out pinterest and sure enough found a picture for the exact look I was going for. Thanks for validating me pinterest. Here is the before picture of one of the chairs

And the after shot...

PROJECT SUCCESS!!

On Saturday I went downtown to our local farmer's market. Two different local farmers bring a load of produce downtown and sell on the weekends. This was the first weekend I made it down there and apparently didn't get there early enough...most of the good stuff was gone. I did manage to get a huge head of cabbage and some fresh dill.

I told you that cabbage was HUGE!!

DILL RECIPE
If you're looking for a great summer dip try adding a cup of light mayo, a cup of sour cream and lots of fresh dill in the food processor and chop it up really well. It taste great with veggies or chips. And if you want something really delcious toss some fresh shrimp in the mix and put it on french bread and toast it with some fresh parmesan for just a few minutes. Yummy! For an even healthier dip you can try the dill with greek yogurt intead of mayo and sour cream.

After waking up last week with bites all over my face I decided it was time to try to ween Matti off of sleeping in the bed with me. I'm most certain it was mosquito bites but it was enough to make me kick ole girl to the curb. She takes up a lot of the bed and I find myself sleeping crooked around her most of the night. It's a good move for us both. So I brought the ottoman to my oversized chair up to my room and she seems to love it. She won't even get in my bed when I call her now. She finally crawled in with me during the wee hours of the morning today when the apartment was freezing. Moral of the story....not a big deal to Matti to move out of the bed, KB is having to adjust.

And she thought she was being sneaky grabbing scraps out the trash while I was cooking the other night. You would think that I never feed the poor girl...she has to rummage through the trash to eat. Yeah right!

And this is how I left her this morning when I went to work. It was so cold in the apartment that she figured out how to get under that blanket and cover up. What a life.

now tell me that ain't funny?!?!

So this Monday morning I have been tagged on facebook in several funny pictures that just seemed too good not to share. Hope they make you laugh as much as I did.

This photo is funny for two reasons #1 haven't we all been there? wishing that somehow M&M candies could magically make us smaller? #2 I was tagged by a friend who brought back to mind a story from my younger wilder days where I had gone to a club with some friends and as a minor the club took a sharpie marker and wrote a big "M" on my hand. Well at some point in the evening I made the connection with the "M" also being a "W" depending on how you held your hand and for the rest of the night I acted dramatically because I had been labeled a "whore"....come on, you know that's funny.

And here's the second funny....

This one was sent to me via text message and facebook this morning by my sister. It made me laugh out loud. For starters this looks like my dog, Matti (who is a big time farter). Second it is my life and my family in a nutshell. So we are little gassy....why does everyone have to be so dramatic about it? In fact now that my secret is out I always get blamed even when I am not the guilty party. Prime example was a trip I went on with some students and co-workers back in January. One of the people on the van had terrible gas and I kept getting blamed for it....what the person didn't know is that I knew exactly who it was and I am always man/woman enough to own up to mine. Ha ha!

this blog brought to you by the number 5

So my official weigh in day isn't until tomorrow but I did my measurements yesterday for the first time since February 16th and I am officially down a collective 5.25 inches (chest, neck, waist, hips, arms, thighs, calves)and a whopping 12lbs down so far. I'm feeling pretty accomplished even though I missed two morning walks this week. I'll make it up tomorrow laying the rest of the laminate flooring in my apartment.

In other news....today is my Matti girl's 5th birthday! Hard to believe she has been with me for five years and yet I can't remember life without her. Happy Birthday Matti girl and here's to many many more good years!
